For many people who work a regular weekday job, the weekend is their time to relax and catch up with friends. Sunday brunch is the perfect time to get together to enjoy each other’s company. And there’s great food, too!

Brunch is so popular in some cities that there can be very long waits just to get a table at a restaurant. It might be more relaxing to have brunch at home with some friends, who can bring over delicious breakfast and lunch food to share. What a great way to start your weekend!

Marni loves to have a leisurely brunch with friends and great food, but Brian doesn’t feel the same way. Find out more in today’s English lesson about how to start a lazy day.

Brian

Marni:  Brian. You know what I really long for on Sunday mornings?

Brian:  Coffee?

Marni:  That, with brunch: the leisurely activity of enjoying a day of just eating. Right?

Brian:  The old mix of breakfast and lunch.

Marni:  Exactly.

Brian:  I can’t stand that wait. I like to eat right when I get up.

Marni:  Oh, really? Just having a lazy day, where you get together with some of your friends, and you just enjoy each other’s company for hours, and snack on finger food. Or have a big meal of breakfast and lunch foods all together. I love it.

Brian:  For me, brunch is a little bit more of a hassle, because I have to organize it and get everyone together. My idea of a chill day is to wake up, have some breakfast, and then just kick back around the house.

Marni:  I guess our two ideals are different. But that’s what makes us friends. The uniqueness.

Marni loves to begin a lazy day with brunch. It’s a great way to get together with her friends and enjoy each other’s company while eating good food throughout the day. She can’t think of another way to enjoy a relaxing day than to start it off with a late breakfast/early lunch meal.

Brian doesn’t feel the same way about brunch. Instead of it being a leisurely activity, he thinks it’s more of a hassle. Brian would rather wake up, have his breakfast, and relax at home without worrying about organizing a big meal with his friends.

Do you ever have brunch? What is your idea of a great way to start a lazy day?

I am more like Brian. I like to have my breakfast and then spend my lazy day at home, usually watching my favourite shows.

But sometimes I meet my friends for breakfast or brunch too. It’s another was to have a great weekend.
