Jake Gyllenhaal has had an interesting career. His first very popular movie was called Bubble Boy. In the funny movie, he is a boy who wears a big bubble and explores the world for the first time. His other movies are usually very thrilling, serious, or inspiring. He is an amazing actor.

But now, he is doing modeling?! Many celebrities will do things other than what they’re known for. Jim Carrey is an actor and a painter. Some actors are also singers, paint collectors, writers, and the like. Jake Gyllenhaal recently modeled for a Calvin Klein ad which surprised and confused many people.

Dominique doesn’t like that Jake Gyllenhaal is trying to be a jack of all trades. Listen as she and Marni discuss in today’s English lesson.

Marni: Dominique! Let’s talk about this Jake Gyllenhaal Calvin Klein ad for Eternity.

Dominique: I can’t even. Like, was it a movie?? Was he supposed to, like, be modeling? I didn’t even know what he was selling until it got to the end. I was like, “What is this?”

Marni: Right.

Dominique: Was it an ad, like, for his newest movie? Like, I just… I’m highly confused. I couldn’t even take it seriously. Like, I just… I don’t know.

Marni: I think that was sort of the point... to confuse us. Right? Are we… Do we love Jake Gyllenhaal? What do we think of the beard???? He’s in this beautiful relationship. Everything’s happy.

Dominique: I was like… I was just like… OK, so what is this movie about? When is it coming out? What’s going on here?

Marni: But it’s not a movie.

Dominique: Yeah, and then at the end, they were like… perfume! And I was just like, are you kidding me? Thank you for wasting my time! And B, I’m not even going to buy it ‘cause you wasted my time.

Marni: Right! Do you think he sold out? Or did that happen a long time ago?

Dominique: I don’t know. I was just uninterested, to be honest. Like…

Marni: Fair enough.

Dominique: I can’t even take it seriously. Like, it was very bland. I’m uninterested. I mean, he’s supposedly a jack of all trades, but he needs to stick to acting ‘cause that was just a hot mess.

Marni just saw Jake Gyllenhaal, a famous actor, in a Calvin Klein ad for Eternity, a perfume for men. Dominique wasn’t sure what the ad was. Was he in a movie recently? Why would he be modeling if he’s an actor? Marni is confused, too. Shouldn’t he be out acting in a serious movie or something?

When Dominique saw the ad, she thought it was going to be a movie. So, she kept watching, and at the end of the ad, she realized it was just a perfume commercial. She wasn’t going to buy it, either. Thanks, Jake Gyllenhaal, for wasting our time! Marni wonders if he’s just a sellout. Dominique doesn’t even care.

I don’t even know Gyllenhaal; so apparently this ad would had worked on me. :) To be honest Dominique is throwing a big drama, feels like she thinks, she been tricked as she was crossing her fingers that it might be an ad for Dyllehaal’s coming movie but it turned out that he (poor thing) was trading his charisma to CK guys. Acting, like any other profession is primarily to earn some good monies and modelling too is kind of acting for earning. Moreover, I feel fans are like copycats (excluding few purists like Dominique). :)
