You’re welcome. Your sentence could read: “Heavy rain was expected and I hoped it wouldn’t damage my painted porch.”

Remember, there are many ways to say the same thing in English. Good job!

Thanks. I was not sure about the grammer actually. I translated it from persian to English.

So you mean… Should I write something like “Heavy rain was expected. Wish it couldn’t wash my recently painted porch” ??

Bora - Add ”the” before porch.

Neginb - The sentences were in the past tense. Delete “be able to.”

Amira - The sentences were written in the past tense as if to tell someone what has already happened.

Fatemeh - Remove “However” and use a comma instead of the period after “announced” and delete “But” and see how it reads.

Hello,

Myanswer:

Heavy rain is expected .Wish it wouldn’t be able to wash my recently painted porch . I am not sure painting at that time was a right job or not.

Hello Mr. Alston

my answer is: I wonder whether I should have painted the porch. The weather forecast was heavy rain which I hoped would not weather away my newly painted it.

Lesson No. 6: The weather on the weather forecast was heavy rain which I hoped would not weather away my newly painted porch. I wonder whether I should have painted it.

Question:

Can you rewrite (paraphrase) this sentence to maintain the main points?

Neginb, the meaning in both sentences is the same even though the words “off” and “on” are opposites of each other but mean the same thing. This is a strange part of English where a word can have an opposite meaning depending on the context. This category of words is called “contronyms.”

Welcome, Neginb:

(A) When the alarm clock goes off, it is the same as saying the alarm is activated and it’s time to get up (awake from sleep.)

(B) When the alarm clock turns on, it’s the same as saying the alarm is activated and it’s time to get up (awake from sleep.)
