Plot: 19 year-old college dropout Seth Davis (Giovanni Ribisi) wants to earn just two things in life: a million dollars and his father´s respect. After failing to do either one by running an illegal casino out of his apartment, Seth has decided to get an honest job. He is working as a stock broker for JT Marlin.
Clip: In this scene, Seth is talking to his girlfriend Abbie (Nia Long). He is happy about making a lot of money, but he’s worried that JT Marlin is doing illegal things. He just found out that one of the stocks he’s been selling is fake. He’s not sure what to do next.

Abbie: What’s wrong?
Seth: Nothing.
Abbie: Seth, I know you.
Seth: Just, just work.
Abbie: It’s your father isn’t it?
Seth: No, no. Everything is great with my dad. He’s, you know he’s taking me out to lunch next week on his request.
Abbie: (Laughs)
Seth: Do you know how happy that shit makes me?
Abbie: I do.
Seth: You know, I mean it’s all based on this job, this very legitimate, respectable job he can tell his friends about during the Yom Kippur appeal. But, you know, I’ll take it, I mean… Oh, fuck. <END PART 1> I’m so fucking close, you know. And, and I’m, and I’m, I’m fucking it up. I mean…
Abbie: How are you fucking it up?
Seth: I went, went to the office. The Med-Patent office this morning and there isn’t one. There’s, it’s cardboard. There’s nothing. There’s no employees. There’s no research and development. There’s nothing. I found out how Michael is making his money. We’re selling stock for companies that don’t exist.

Discussion
Seth and Abbie have been dating for a couple of weeks, so they know each other pretty well. They are talking about something very important, so they both are both taking it seriously. Seth is definitely under a lot of stress. Boiler Room is a powerful movie. I learned a lot from it, and you can too. The acting is great. Ben Affleck and Vin Diesel are especially good. The only problem with the movie is that some of the language was difficult for me to understand – and it’s all in English! There is so much slang that it can be confusing. So, as much as I liked this movie, I give it a 7 out of 10. Have you seen this movie and you want to share your opinion? Or maybe you have seen another movie recently you want to talk about? Well, come to the “Movie Madness” message board and tell us about it! From the front row, Migs
