The Hunted is a new movie starring Benicio Del Toro and Tommy Lee Jones. The basic story of the film is that a soldier (Del Toro) returns from war and finds that the normal world is a difficult place for him to live. He goes crazy and must be tracked down by the man who taught him everything he knows about war (Jones).
The Hunted is especially interesting to the people of Portland, Oregon, because it was filmed in the city. Both Beth and Josh are excited about seeing The Hunted because they know people who were involved in making it. Listen in to their recent conversation about the movie.

Beth:  Josh, have you heard the reviews about that new movie The Hunted?

Josh:  Yeah, I’ve uh… I’ve been pretty interested in the reviews because that movie was filmed here in Portland.

Beth:  I know. That was, um, pretty exciting because I know a lot of people were working on the film and just spectators and extras. Were you involved?

Josh:  Yeah – actually I ended up as a P.A., which is a Production Assistant, and that pretty much just means a lackey.

Beth:  That’s cool! So, what did you do every day?

Josh:  Well, we were filming on public property a lot – on a bridge in fact – and so, we had to, uh, we had to keep the bridge closed down to regular traffic and at the same time we had to let bicycles and pedestrians through, because the city wouldn’t let the movie use the bridge unless they did that. So, it was pretty hard to manage.

Beth:  That’s awesome. I remember when the bridges were closed. And, I remember seeing all these interesting actors in town, and, uh, like Benicio…

Josh:  Del Toro…

Beth:  That’s right. And, um, who else was in the film?

Josh:  Well Tommy Lee Jones…

Beth:  That’s right.

Josh:  ...and Connie Nielsen is the female lead. She’s been in, she was in Gladiator and a few other things but she’s not a real big name yet, I guess.

Beth:  Well, I saw a, uh, car chase and I’m pretty certain it was part of, uh, the filming of The Hunted and I can’t wait to see the movie just because the car chase was so awesome.

Josh:  Yeah, there’s some great action in it. Um, I hope the movie’s fun.

Beth:  Cool. I’ll check it out.

Discussion

Josh and Beth sound like they’re definitely going to see The Hunted. I’m not sure I’m going to. Although it does seem cool to see a movie filmed in Portland, The Hunted doesn’t seem like a great movie. It’s a violent movie about pain, violence and destruction. I’m just not sure I need to see a movie like that right now.
Film critics have been giving mixed reviews of the The Hunted. Some say it’s a great action-adventure movie. Others say it’s a boring remake of Rambo (a movie starring Sylvester Stallone with a similar story and similar characters). You’ll have to make up your own mind about The Hunted!
See you at the movies!
