Seeing a great movie in a beautiful theater with perfect sound is a fantastic experience. However, it’s not the only way to enjoy a movie. You can also watch movies that show on TV, rent them on VHS or DVD and play them at home, or see them on the airplane or at a hotel. You can also watch movies on your computer if you want.
Beth recently discovered that if you have cable TV, you can watch movies at home at any time. Channels like Showtime and HBO play movies 24 hours a day. Listen in to her conversation with Miguel to learn more.

Beth:  Miguel, did you know that if you order the high-end cable you get like six different HBO channels?

Miguel:  No way. That’s amazing. What’s the difference between ’em?

Beth:  Well, you are not limited to one, but you have six different movie options any time – no commercials. How cool is that?

Miguel:  That’s really cool. I always thought there was just one thing. What, what made you have this realization?

Beth:  Well, I was at a friend’s house just kind of hanging out, surfing around and I found six different HBO options. I believe one was in Spanish and the rest were in English, but I couldn’t believe all the options. I mean, I never have that many options at home with just basic cable.

Miguel:  So did you actually find any movies you were interested in watching with all of those channels?

Beth:  Oh, yeah. I flipped back and forth across three. When it turned to a scene that I wasn’t that interested in I’d just find another movie that I liked.

Miguel:  That’s the one thing I think is kind of crazy about that is, like, if you have that many movie channels will you ever actually sit there and watch only one movie?

Beth:  I know. I couldn’t have so many options every day, but it’s kind of fun to have unlimited options like that once in a while.

Discussion

When I was a kid, my parents didn’t have cable TV so we only had a few channels. However, when I was in college and living away from home, I had expanded cable, with about 100 different channels. It was awesome. I used to watch TV all the time.
Now that I’m older, I don’t watch much TV. I don’t even have cable at my house. I much prefer to see movies at the theater. It’s a good reason to get out of the house!
See you at the movies!
