When “Silence of the Lambs” came out in 1991 it had a big impact on the public. It was suspenseful, terrifying and sickening, but in an intelligent way. Joe and Zach talk about some of the scariest scenes from that movie and about the upcoming sequel “Hannibal.”
Dialog

Zach: Hey, uh, Joe did you ever see “Silence of the Lambs?”
Joe: Yeah, I did. I saw it when it first came out.
Zach: What did you think of it?
Joe: I thought it was great.
Zach: Are you going to go see that new “Hannibal” movie?
Joe: Yeah, I’d like to see it even though it’s going to be pretty scary.
Zach: I’m kind of nervous about seeing it. The last one was really freaky.
Joe: Yeah, that was scary. Especially at the end where he took the man’s face and put it on his face and then he had the tube down his mouth and he took the man’s face off.
Zach: Oh yeah. No, the scariest part for me was when the girl was down in the well. And you look up the sides of the well and there was fingernails and blood and stuff. Somebody had tried to scratch their way out of it.
Joe: Yeah, that was…whew...that was scary too, yep….the goggles too, when he had the goggles? The night goggles. That was scary.
Zach: Oh, yeah. That was so freaky. Well, I just like Hannibal...
Joe: ...and that part where he tucked his privates in, uh…
Zach: (laughter) You got really excited didn’t you.
Joe: No, no. I can’t say that I did. Uh, it was just very grotesque and really just sent chills down my spine.
Zach: Yeah.

Discussion
After Joe and I had this discussion I went and saw “Hannibal.” Unfortunately, it is not nearly as good as the original. The suspense is replaced by gore. One of the main character points of Hannibal Lecter is that he dislikes crude behavior. Maybe it’s a sign that the screenwriter, director and main actress Jodie Foster all said “no” to the movie. In the first scenes there was a lot of memorable scenes that were suspenseful. In this movie there were a lot of gross scenes I just wanted to forget. Have you seen this movie? What do you think? Come to the “Movie Madness” message board and ask them! From the front row, Zach
