------------
1979
Sung by smashing pumpkins

shakedown 1979,cool kids never have the time
on a live wireright up off the street
you and i shouldmeet

junebug skipping like a stone
withthe headlights pointed at the dawn
we weresure we’d never see an end to it all

and idon’t even care to shake these zipper blues
andwe don’t know
just where our bones will rest
to dust i guess
forgotten and absorbedinto the earth below

double cross thevacant and the bored
they’re not sure justwhat we have in the store
morphine cityslippin dues down to see

that we don’teven care as restless as we are
we feel thepull in the land of a thousand guilts
andpoured cement, lamented and assured
to thelights and towns below

faster than thespeed of sound
faster than we thought we’d go,beneath the sound of hope

justine neverknew the rules,
hung down with the freaks andthe ghouls
no apologies ever need be made, iknow you better than you fake it

to seethat we don’t care to shake these zipper blues
and we don’t know just where our bones willrest
to dust i guess

forgotten andabsorbed into the earth below
the street heatsthe urgency of sound
as you can see there’s noone around

<!-==text==begin==-> Yeah, you’re absolutelyright. I agree that most of the lyrics of thissong is more like abstract and metaphoric.:)

I’ve read about Billy’s interviewarticle reported on Chicago Tribune saying thatwhen asked “Why ‘1979’?”, he replied like “I haveno idea, I had to call it something. Much of thesong is more intuitive than literal.”

Anyhow your kind reply helped meunderstand the lyrics quite a lot! I really reallyappreciate it.

Thank you sooo much!!!:)
