It's a little different from the question which i asked,

" sth. have been driving me to do sth." or

" sth. have been driving me doing sth."

which one is right ?  to use gerund or not ? how to distinguish ?

Hi! The first answer is correct.

Some verbs or expressions can be followed by either a gerund or an infinitive. Some can only be followed by one or another. "Drive" should always be followed by an infinitive.

Unfortunately, there aren't rules for this, you just need to memorize which verbs are followed by gerunds and which ones are followed by infinitives.

Thanks! AmySmile
