For your example, the first sentence, “What’s your plan for this weekend?” is standard American English. We would use the phrase “over the weekend” to talk about a trip or an activity lasting longer than one day. For example, “I am going to California over the weekend,” or, “We will be visiting relatives over the weekend.”
