Marni says she’s scared of Rollercoasters


Devan:  Well, I guess we could always just go and play the carnival games, then, if that’s how you feel about rollercoasters.


Marni:  Yeah, you know, I’m going to have to sit that one out.



What’s that mean? Sit that one out?

The verb sit something out means to not participate. Marni doesn’t like rollercoasters, so she will not participate if her friends choose to ride one. As another example, an athlete who has been injured might sit out a game if he/she cannot play.
