But the Brazilian Portuguese idiom "Com a pulga atrás da orelha", if translated literally into English, would acquire an entirely new meaning. "A flea in one's ear" means a sharp reproof.There is also the idiom "Fit as a flea", which means in a very good health. To mean the same, Brazilians would say"Forte como um touro"(=strong as a bull). So, fleas and bulls, altough of disparate sizes, share, in people's mind, the same qualities of force, vigour, strengh, and power.
