The traditional Brazilian drink is prepared with cachaça. If you can't find cachaça where you live, use a good vodka. The drink will then be called caipiroshka. No vodka? Use white rum and you will have a caipiríssima.  Caipirinhas made with sake are all the rage in Brazil now! Try one...

1 lemon (preferely Galego)

2 ounces of cachaça

Cane Sugar to taste

Ice cubes

Wash the lemon and roll it on the board to loosen the juices. Cut the lemon into pieces and place them in a glass. Sprinkle with the sugar and crush the pieces (pulp side up / smesh) with a pestle. We have a long, wooden one from Brazil, used to smesh garlic, but use a new one. Just enough to release the juice, otherwise it'll get bitter. Add the cachaça and stir to mix. Add the ice and stir again. It is delicious and strong!

Alternative for lemon you can use strawberry, kiwi, passion fruit, they are good!

Enjoy! But if you drink don't drive! If you drive, don't drink!

All the best!

Hi Andrea

I have tried Caipirinha in Germany a few times but it doesn’t taste like in Brazil.

Perhaps that has something to do with the environment. When I was in Brazil it was very hot and the Caipirinha was very delicious. In Germany it taste different … even in the summer. So for the next Caipirinha I should visit Brazil again :)

Best wishes
