My Hometown (1)

Now, I’d like to tell you something about my hometown, Hangzhou.

Hangzhou is the capital of Zhejiang province, and has an area of 16847 square kilometers. It lies at the mouth of the Qiantang River and has a population of 6 million. The city has existed for more than 4700 years. It is one of the seven ancient capitals in China.The city flower is sweet osmanthus, and the city tree is camphor tree.

Hangzhou is known for the West Lake, pure silk, Dragon Well Tea and charming girls. It is reputed as “Southern Watery Region” and “Heaven on Earth”. Marco Polo,the Italian traveler in the 13th century said "Hangzhou is the most splendid and luxurious city in the world. "Also there is a famous ancient proverb in China reads like this: “In heaven there is paradise, on earth there are Suzhou and Hangzhou.”

Besides the scenery, as a main historical culture city,there are quite some places of historical interests in Hangzhou.
