Perform your miracles

                     —— feelings of watching <Homeless to Harvard>

We always heard different complaints around our ears all day in our daily lives. But after watching <Homeless to Harvard> in this winter vacation, I find I can’t understand the “complainers”. If Liz can be admitted by Harvard, is there anything that we can’t do in the world?

Liz lived in a unlucky family, alcoholic parents, poor, small and dirty house etc. Except Liz, even I can’t find a little hope in the life full of drugs and quarrel. At the age of 15, her mother died from AIDS, father was sent into the shelter. At the same time, she realized she needed change the status quo of her life because she didn’t want to be everyman who live for existence. At 17, she wanted to use two years to finish the four-year class of the high school and she did. She use to be a study leader and all the people around her were impressed by her strength of will and belief. “Ten class, two years, this is not possible, you will be tired to death!” “No, this is life.” Finally, with her long-term efforts, she got the first scholarship of “The New York Times” successfully and Harvard opened the golden door to her and her life

Through the film, there are few frames can move us to tears, but more times to make us think: how can she get success?

Firstly, I think it’s based on her attitudes towards life — she dared to try anything that she wants to do, she’s good at catching the chance. When she applied for the high school, she said: “I know I can succeed, I just need a chance.”, so that she could have a place to finish her two-year high school life which was the key-base of her success. In the film <One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest>, McMurphy wagered ten dollars to say he could move the table. He tried, and again, but all failed. Suddenly he shouted: “Fuck! I tried finally, I tried at least!” This is life, whatever the result is, we should always have the courage to try. Try may doesn’t mean success, but giving up absolutely means failure.

Secondly, when she decided to back to school, she could pay 200% of energy to complete her dream, so I think another reason for her success is she had the spirit that she can make no regret about her choice. There are too many “if” in our lives: “if I went home at that time”, “if I had no quarrel with my girlfriend”, “if I didn’t make that choice”…… If you always like telling like that, I should say, success may gets far away from you. When we make a choice, that means we have the responsibility to be in charge of it, so that we should use our whole energy to complete it in order to get rid of the pity like Liz. This is not stupid, this is what we must do.

Life is full of chances and challenges, if you don’t want to be a loser at the first step, then grab and face them. Liz, from poor and dirty to fashion and popular, she told us what is the real life

If Liz could perform the miracle, why can’t we do?

If there are no miracles in the world, let’s perform one!
