Mathematicians and a frog

Have you read some of Popper’s works? Or was it on your exams? It’s nice to meet somebody who is familiar with metascientific problems.
Strictly speaking, math is the first (historically) branch of science (or human knowledge?) in which reflection (selfconsciousness) on its own structure has straightforwardly manifested. Shining example is Euclidian geometry. It is known a set of axioms, and a variety of theorems based deductively on the axioms. If you like Poppers philosophy, I would like to recommend you Lakatos’ works.
