Another case of water pollution: ‘Suedwestpresse’ says that the water of a lake in Baden-Wuerttemberg – which is located to the South of Germany – now turned into a thick, slimy, green brew, because people kept feeding bread to the wild ducks living in this lake. Of course it happened that the birds oversaw one or two pieces of bread or dropped crumbs every once in a while. After a while this was the effect all this dough had on the lake.

The German newspaper ‘Suedwestpresse’ says that there is a new trend – kinda similar to the ice bucket challenge. You take a jar of 1,5 liters and in it you collect cigars you find in a natural environment – be it a forest, a beach, the shore of a lake or anything else…and you don’t stop until your entire jar is full. Then you take a photo and post it on a social media website like Facebook or englishbaby.com.

Another newspaper article provided by ‘GEA’ concerning an environmentalist issue: Okjökull in Iceland is the very first glacier to be declared ‘dead’ by the country it belongs to. There just is little to no ice left on this former glacier.

Another newspaper article concerning environmental pollution: The German newspaper ‘GEA’ says that the problem with people disposing off their waste in and around Reutlingen by using illegal methods meanwhile has become a really big issue. Thus the people from the garbage collection meanwhile even have order to call the police if they find for example electronic waste or chemicals not disposed off in an environmentally-friendly and illegal way. Of course also private people are encouraged to call the police if they see something like this. The police takes these things seriously according to the article and starts real, thorough investigations. If the culprit is caught, he has to pay high fines – hundreds of dollars.

Today I watched a documentary on the TV-channel ‘NDR’. It was called ‘The Tricks of the Plastic Industry’. The following news I heard for the first time:
>It happens that fishermen end up having a lot of plastic waste as by-catch in their nets. Disposing off this waste used to cost them money. Now however the environmentalist group ‘NABU’ paid to be allowed to put a dumpster next to the port. Now these fisher men can dispose off their waste there for free.
>Scientific experiments showed that even by driving cars we actually pollute our water with plastic. Small plastic particles rub off your tires as you drive (even if you don’t drive fast) and as soon as rain comes these plastic particles get flushed off the road and maybe into a lake, a river or a sewer.
