I want to make new friends

Hello everyone my name is Joy. I am a Thai national but I am now living in England with my English husband. We have no children but I love shopping, cooking, spending time with my friends, etc. I want to make friends who want to practise English the same as I do. I have an English husband but in my opinion it is better not just learn how to speak English but also to learn about other cultures, languages and make new friends. I hope to hear from you soon.

Bye for now.

Hi Sam and thank you for your reply.

I understand what you say about driving in Bangkok but I actually found it quite easy as I spent so long without the car moving that I was able to do my make up on the way to work! Some people used to take their breakfasts to eat in the car or read books and some students getting lifts to school used to have a sleep.

The traffic jams were so bad and it took so long to drive to work that I eventually gave up and used the river boats to travel. Sometimes if I was in a hurry I would use the motorbike taxis but I always feared for my life when whizzing in and out of the traffic.

I am not affraid of hard work and fully agree with what you say about getting ahead with studies or careers. I pride myself on working hard. I think that it is my personal motivation that rules me. I always put my personal expectations in front of corporate loyalty or teacher's expectaions. I have high standards for myself and it makes me feel good if I can exceed the expectations of others.

The problem I have at the moment is that I am not sure what I want to do. In a sense I am having to take some time out to get my life into perspective. It might be someting to do with my age, I say with a little laugh in my voice. I am not in what English people call a mid-life crisis but I do need to have a feel for where my life is going now that I am living in a foreign country. I have new friends and I am developing new interests which are influencing me. I always wanted to have a plan for my life but I am having to recognise that sometimes plans have to change.

One thing that I have started to enjoy is cooking. I was never really interested or much good at it but I have been doing more cooking in recent months and I am enjoying trying some new recipes. I am trying western dishes as well as adapting Thai dishes for English tastes. I have been brave and tried to copy some of the English and Italian dishes I have tried and I have been pleased with the results.

Do you have a broad experience of food with your job taking you all over the place?

Hope you are well and to hear from you again soon

Hi Joy:

It is always a pleasure to read your lines. I'm extremely busy these days, and I would feel tired and wanted to go to bed whenever I have some free time. So I cannot write too long. Perhaps we can exchange ideas and messages through more personal email address.

My address is: xucyuan @ y e a h . n e t

But when you actually use the address, you have to use it without any space in between the letters.

With my best wishes for you in all aspects.

Sam
