I have difficulty with “Had and have” could you please explain it?

Hi! “Had” is the past tense of “have.” So we say, “I have a dog” and “When I was a child, I had a dog.”

When you tray to but hav in word you have to think,
Ether this word is in the past or not.
If it’s in the past, we say “I have a Dog”
If not, we say ” when I was a child, I had a Dog”

Hi! If it’s in the past we say “I had a dog.” If it’s in the present we say “I have a dog.”
