1) I watch TV but I listen to the radio.  Why do you think we need to use the article “the” before radio? Also is it OK to say I go to beach or I go to the beach?


2) Is it correct to say I am watching the football match if I am sitting in a stadium? In place of the verb watch can I use “see”? because I am not at home and I’m in a stadium do you think I should not use “watch” here?

1) We say I watch TV because what is being watched is not, in fact, the television itself but the content being played on the TV. If you are talking about the device, you do use “the TV.” For example, “I spilled water on the TV,” or, “I can’t see the TV.” Although you also listen to the content on the radio, it is necessary to have the device. In addition, there are other objects in the household that produce sounds (E.g. a musical instrument, a CD player, etc.), so it is necessary to distinguish that you are, in fact, listening to the radio.


2) “Watch” is always used for sports games, theatre shows, movies, etc. “See” refers to something specific (E.g. a bird, a monument, a person).
