Amanda: It was all about green and white and school pride. I got to cheer and do the splits.



What does she mean by green and white? and what’s doing the splits?




and then she say: Do you not appreciate rooting for your own school?


I thought appreciate meant to thank or to be thankful. But it doesn’t make sense. What does appreciate mean here?

Green and white were the colors of the school that Amanda attended. The sports teams wore green and white uniforms. The school probably had hallways or rooms painted in those colors, too. 


The splits is a type of gymnastics move. It means that a person is sitting down with both legs completely straight, one in front of and one behind the person. The splits is a common move for cheerleaders to perform.


Appreciate (v.) = like or enjoy; be thankful for
