Hello, is it correct to say…


“When I was young I have wished that I could fly.”?


I read that feeling verbs like “wish” are mainly used in simple present. And is the following sentence correct?


“Today I don’t wish that I could fly.”


A Google search for “I don’t wish [that] I could fly.” does not provide a result.

Both of your sentences are not quite correct, which is why Google isn’t being very helpful!


My suggestions for the first sentence:”When I was young, I wished that I could fly,” or, “When I was young, I wanted to be able to fly.” Even better, you might say, “When I was young, I used to wish that I could fly.”


My suggestions for the second sentence: “I don’t wish that I could fly anymore,” or, “I don’t have that wish anymore.” You might even say, “I no longer wish that I could fly.”
