Present Progressive:

Do you know what present progressive is?  Look for it in the chat below.

Was present progressive used in the chat above?

It was!  "Palsm20: Hey Jen, checking my email..." People use present progressive almost every time they chat!

Present Progressive has two parts:

  1. the verb to be (example: am, is, are)
  2. verb infinitive with -ing ending (example: watching, checking)

               - the basic, simple verb and add -ing

Here are some examples from chatting:

  • What are you doing right now?
  • I am sitting in front of the computer. Just chatting.
  • I am not working right now. Message me later.

Can you tell how you use present progressive in questions?

You can use the pattern below:

                - What + verb to be + person + verb -ing?

                - What are you doing?

Next time you chat and you are talking about things right now use present progressive.  You can use present progressive with:

  • Things happening now!
    • I am writing this lesson.
  • Trends.
    • More and more students are finding answers online.
  • Things you always do!
    • He is always  coming in late.
Next time you chat use present progressive!  If you have any questions add a comment and I'll answer it!

I sorry, but I thingyou forgot to tell something about the last use you can make of the present progressive (continuous) and that is that when you are talking about a repeated action with the word "allways" it usually referes to an action that represents the speaker'sbothering.

Maybe I'm meeting a mistake. But I think that's quite good to clarify that point, as is a quite common task.

xiazhifeng8050 If you don't understand, ask me a question.  What don't you know?  Present progressive is a tense (like past).  You use it to talk about things that are happening right now.
