Hi Friends!
For many people, summer camp is an essential part of growing up. Every summer, millions of children attend summer camps. Some go just for fun, while others go to learn more about a specific hobby, sport or outdoor activity. There are camps for just about everything, from music to language study to basketball to rock climbing.
Anna was lucky enough to go to summer camp as a kid. Listen in to her conversation with Migs to learn more about her experiences.

Migs: Hey Anna, did you go to summer camp as a kid?
Anna: You betcha – several of them.
Migs: Really? Like sleepover camps, or just weekly camps or what?
Anna: Weekly camps. We went to outdoor school where we learned all about the wilderness and then horse camp, where we actually camped with our horses for a week.
Migs: See, I think that’s really cool. I don’t think I went to many summer camps, but last weekend I was up in the, uh, San Juan Islands, actually, um, helping build, or prepare for a summer camp, and it totally made me wish I had gone as a kid.
Anna: Oh, I have the best memories from summer camp. The nicknames I got at summer camp – some I still have.
Migs: Like what?
Anna: Um, well, one of my nicknames was “Pony.” That was at the horse camp.
Migs: Why were you “Pony?”
Anna: Because there were two Anna’s at the camp, and we each had to pick a nickname for it to be fair, and I picked “Pony.”
Migs: That’s very cute.
Anna: What’s funny about it is I’ll be living life, walking around, and I’ll hear someone go, “Hey Pony!” And I know exactly where I know ‘em from.

I didn’t go to many summer camps when I was a kid, but I always wanted to. One of my best friends went to a camp called Camp Nor’Wester every summer, and he would always come back with so many exciting stories about his adventures. At his camp, he got to build teepees, rock climb, kayak, sail and do many other cool things. He made lots of friends, and he loved all the camp counselors.
Summer camp is lots of fun for kids, but it’s also great for parents. They get a break from their children, which allows them to relax and enjoy the summer on their own for a few weeks!
Have a great week!
