Hi Friends!
Texas is the second biggest state in the U.S. (after Alaska) and it has a special character that’s different than anywhere else in the country. The Texas culture is a mix of Southern hospitality, cowboy cool and Tex-Mex style. The state’s proximity to Mexico and history of cattle ranching give it a unique and interesting flavor.
Miguel recently spent a week in Texas while on vacation. Listen to his conversation with Zach to hear about his trip.

Zach:  So how was your trip out to Texas?

Miguel:  Oh, it was like the classic Texas experience. Like, I did all the, like, typical stuff, you know.

Zach:  So, what’s the typical stuff out there? I’ve never been.

Miguel:  Well, the first thing was like, barbecue. Texas is kinda famous for barbecue and we went to this all-you-can-eat barbecue place, like, in the middle of nowhere, and it was, like, incredible. The food was just, like, I can’t even describe how good it was.

Zach:  Man, just that downhome, finger lickin’ good, uh, barbecue sauce?

Miguel:  Yeah, exactly. I wanted to drink the barbecue sauce – it tasted so good. But, what was really cool is before that, we went, uh, swimming at this really amazing, like, swimming hole. And, um, we were in the water and all of a sudden this, uh, this snake swam, like, past us and we all freaked out. So, we ran up to the shore and we got up to the shore, we realized it was a big rattlesnake, and it swam across the water. So, it was super freaky.

Zach:  Oh, that’s scary. How close was it to you?

Miguel:  Well, it probably swam, you know, 20 feet away, so it wasn’t that close, but it was moving pretty fast, so it seemed like if it, if it had wanted to come over to us it probably could have.

Discussion

I haven’t spent much time in Texas, but I do have a good feeling about the state. There’s just something fun about the idea of hot sun, spicy barbecue, rodeos and country music. I’d like to go down to Texas sometime and do some of the fun stuff Miguel did on his trip.
One of the things that makes the U.S. so cool is the difference between each of the states.
Have a great week!
