These days, it seems like a lot of people are obsessed with getting thin. But skinny hasn’t always been considered beautiful. Until recently, the ideal female figure was soft and curvy. And in some cultures, a bit of extra weight is still considered a good thing. But in the US, thin is definitely in, for men and women alike.

With so much pressure to be skinny, some people try to lose weight in extreme ways. But there are safe, healthy ways toget in shape, too. Listen to Devan and Beren talk about different strategies for shaving off those unwanted pounds and for a man’s perspective, take a look at Dale’s blog about losing weight.

Beren:  Do you work out?

Devan:  I do. I try to work out a fair amount. I don’t do it as often as I should. Like some people, you know, exercise several times a week. I don’t even get to the gym every week necessarily. But I try to go as often as I can. Because if you don’t hit the gym, you won’t get toned. And I want to have a toned body.

Beren:  Well, I’m trying to shave off some pounds. I’m trying to figure out the best way to lose weight. But all my friends are into fad dieting, like fasting’s a really big one right now. Like there’s the “Miracle Cleanse.”

Devan:  Yeah, my personal belief is it’s all about everything in moderation. I don’t think any of those fad diets really work. So, it’s all just about getting exercise, eating less. It’s just…Everything’s in moderation, you know? I’m all about just having a healthy lifestyle. Eating more fruits and vegetables and drinking lots of water and hitting the gym. That’s what works for me.

Beren:  Cool. Well, I’ll keep that in mind.

Beren would like to lose a little weight, but she isn’t sure how to do it. Some of her friends have tried to lose a lot of weight quickly by fasting. But Devan thinks that starving yourself in order to lose weight is unhealthy.

For Devan, the best way to get in shape is to eat healthy foods and work out. Some people who fast or try other fad diets, like eating nothing but red meat for every meal, do lose some weight, but quickly gain it back as soon as they go off the diet. Some people can eat whatever they want, never exercise, and still remain thin. But for most of us, staying in shape requires a consistent effort to be healthy.

I think neither being thin is good nor being fat, since both of them are vulnerable to illness‏ ‏to a great extent. Well, to begin with, it is believed there should be some permanent changes that requires making them to the entire lifestyle. Here is the elephant in the room in this regard, food, against which some people are already lost, if those who want to get in a good shape following being fat, could control themselves in their challenge with eating food, succulent and oily food in particular, through using a moderate diet that increases metabolism of body, it is likely they get an ideal result within an acceptable period of time. As well as that, exercising regularly is a good supplement for the diet, it makes it possible to create a colorie shortage which ultimately culminates in losing weight, though, it is not as much useful as having a good schedule with regard to food. In addition, when reaching the ideal form, the plan should be kept doing and paying attention to, because they are still prone to get back to their former situation.

Yes, I agree that many people are too obsessed with being thin. Espesially woman.The best way to get and to stay in shape or good phisical condition are to eat healthy food, move a lot, hit the gym in your free time or even work out at home from time to time.

I think work out is the bset way to lose weight. many girls in my country are obsessed with being thin,fortunately,iam not ; i dont gain weight apace.I start losing weight uncontrollably after passing through emotinal state since five years .i couldnt gain it back since then.

I am agree with Devan: a healthy lifestyle is what keeps a person fit. Also termination of some ill habits (like eating in front of the TV) may contribute greatly to losing weight.Most girls are really obsessed with being thin. They look at themselves in the mirror and see themselves fat, even though their weight is normal. I’m one of these girls! :)

First people are obsessed with food and then they are obsessed with losing weight. Ok, I do understand there are so many delicious and tasty things to eat. Nice meal is one of our few pleasures, but! we eat to live – not live to eat.

Also want to add, if you are overweight, that doesn't mean your life has to stop at the moment. Fall in love with your body, doesn't matter plump or thin, and you'll get your love back.

And in conclusion, miracles never happen, be stubborn and you'll succeed.

I think than being healthy is much more important than losing weight. Many people instead of losing weight by fad diets lose their health. We need to be wise trying to shave off some pounds!
