When Taylor Swift first appeared on the music scene, she was just a young teenage girl. She began her career playing country music, which is a style of music that is mostly popular in the southern US. But through the years, Taylor has grown up… and so has her music.

Her latest albums, like “1989” and “Red,” have more of a pop sound. Her music has more fans now that she’s become a pop star. Some fans are really enjoying her new style, but others might want her to stay with her original sound.

Lily and Jessica talk about Taylor Swift’s new sound and if they like it. Find out more in today’s English lesson about pop music.

Lily: Have you seen Taylor Swift’s new video?

Jessica: I did.

Lily: What did you think? It was so cool.

Jessica: I don’t know if I can get into her new style. She’s evolved so much. And I think she needs to go back to her original country roots.

Lily: I think it’s unfair to pigeon-hole someone into a specific genre of music. She’s evolving, and it’s cool.

Jessica: I can see that. I just worry that she may alienate her original fans. She’s still so young, but she has such a strong fan base when she sticks to her country roots. I’m concerned for her, but I hope it works out.

Lily: I think she’ll be awesome no matter what. I’m excited to see where she goes from here.

On the other hand, Jessica thinks that Taylor should stick to playing the music that first made her famous. Taylor’s roots are in country music, and a lot of her fan base has known her since that time. Jessica thinks that Taylor’s new pop sound might alienate her old fans.

I like Taylor swift as an elegant girl. I like her simple style in fashion and I like to watch her in the talkshow programs. Also, I am interested in her vedio clips. they are so attractive and funny. However, I don’t like her song so much. Their words are not more valuble. I think most her fans are teens. Overall, she seems a nice and humble person.

If a singer sticks to a music style some people may think “He/she should try new things. It’s always the same. I’m bored”, but if a singer changes his/her music some people may say “Why did he/she change? I prefer her/his old style”

Summing up, there will be always people complaining about something. Personally I think that musicians, singers or artist in general should try new things, and explore different styles. That is part of the evolution.

I’ve just watched Taylor swift’s Shake it off and Miley Cyrus Love money party and it struck me who they want to copy – Lady Gaga! But the thing is you watch Lady Gagas clip over and over again, but theirs not even a minute. The bottom line – just be yourself, keep your style, even if it’s quite boring.
