Different things can annoy one person but not bother another person. It can be something little like watching someone chew their food with their mouth open. Or it may be something that bothers a lot of people like drivers who don’t obey traffic laws.

Everyone has pet peeves. Since we can’t control the way people behave, we are sure to find people who act in a way that we don’t like. Even if you try to ignore a pet peeve, sometimes it’s so annoying that it’s all you can think about.

Marni complains to Kellie about the kinds of people who annoy her. Find out more in today’s English lesson about pet peeves.

Marni:  Kellie, one of my biggest pet peeves is when people just stand around when you’re trying to walk and get around somebody. People are just so oblivious to their personal space.

Kellie:  Oh, really? Yeah, I can see how that would be annoying. But I try not to get hung up on something like that.

Marni:  I was driving here and then I got cut off. People are just so inconsiderate.

Kellie:  That is rude, but maybe you need to just let go.

Marni:  Really?

Kellie:  Yeah. You don’t have to think about these things. Refocus your energy on something else.

Marni:  I guess I just have so many pet peeves. People just don’t consider other people. And that really irks me.

Kellie:  I understand. I used to be like that. But then I just try to think about the positive.

Marni:  Alright, I guess, I’ll try to take some advice from you. But perky people are also a pet peeve of mine.

Marni seems very annoyed lately. She’s recently had some rude experiences with other people and tells Kellie about it. Inconsiderate people are a big pet peeve to Marni.

Kellie understands Marni’s feelings because she used to be bothered by other people’s behavior, too. She tells Marni that she tries not to let things annoy her and it helps. Positive thinking has also helped Kellie deal with her pet peeves.

Are there any little things that bother you? What are your pet peeves?

I have some pet peeves, but I know some people who have too many.  I have a friend who gets irritated over anything; a noice, people, place, food, etc, and it is irritating to me.  I guess one of my pet peeves are people who are too complicated and hard to pleased.  However, I try not to get hung up on things like that.

One of my biggest pet peeves is when I have to hear people showing off their knowlegde around others that are clueless about what they are saying. I don’t like that at all.

One of my pet peeves I’d say is when you’ve set an appointment with someone and they just don’t show up, nor give you any kind of warning beforehand so you don’t have to keep standing there wondering what might have happened to them.

Cheers!

There are so many pet peeves around in our everyday  life .But I try to avoid them and mostly not to put attention .We often have to put up with with many things which bother  and irritate us,.Only if we learn to accept reality as it is and ,we will take pet peeves easy.

I’m very peaceful person. It’s in our blood to forget what was look like a pet peeve. That’s why I can’t come up with a constant, nagging, eating alive bug that would really bother me. Sometimes I just don’t notice, just only hear people saying,’sorry, sorry’ – I don’t know what they’re sorry for. Anyway, it’s nice of them. My mind is too busy with the daily exciting projects to let the pet peeves bother me. I think it also, you don’t believe, I have pet that is more of relief rather then peeve;)

One of my pet peeves:

When you are in a supermarket. You want to go with your trolley because you want to buy for example a toothpaste but you are not able to reach your destination because two people are speaking on the worst (narrowest) place in the supermarket. They have possibilities to speak in other place where they do not bother other people but they do not do this and they cause a big traffic jam inside the shop.

Two of my colleague are interesting! They don’t use tissue to drying their hands after washing them! They shake their hand to dry their hand! It is ridiculous to me and if I want to get hang up about it annoy me! I always try not to see these kinds of act or behavior of people but sometimes I don’t no why, they bother me! Like making sound when people chewing or drinking something!

Some people when they shaking hand with me, they shake hand in a way like they are willing to do this action or they don’t like me! I feel this is rude, I know most of them don’t have a specific purpose, just they used to do on this way!
These are some of my pet peeves. I thought I have some behavior or act that annoy some people too, so I started to be oblivious to them.

Always will be people who annoying, because we all think not the same way. We have to follow the basic rules of decency to be polite with others… But if something is right thing for you it doesn’t mean that’s it’s right thing for others..a person even can’t know that he/she is annoying you by doing something that is wrong for you:) The best thing I can do for myself is ignoring annoying and focus on myself or any positive things as Kellie does. The more you think about it the more you find it. I prefer not to change my mood by thinking of annoying and strange behavior :)

Dear Shoba, for what i am reading ,inconsiderate people  are everywere . I understand your feelings, and as far as Marni is concern, i think that she is overly picky .

After buying  groceries i was in line at the checkout counter, in front of me there was a woman with a shopping cart  , she put all the groceries on the counter, paid  for her purchasing    and left out , leaving to me   the work of having to take it away. very rude and inconsiderate , i am not his servant . i was annoyed but usually i avoid confrontation in the street .

Dear Julito,

Thanks for sharing your pet peeve with us. When I visit you I will try not to crack my knuckles. Or I’ll remember to bring some cotton for your nice ears.

I know the art of being wise is to know what to overlook and we should learn to ignore little things that annoy us in everyday life.

But it is not easy for me to overlook when someone cuts in front of a line when I have been waiting there for almost an hour or when people smoke around little children. I get pretty annoyed and feel like giving a lecture to them!

Sometimes I am like Marni who gets annoyed with very little things. But I find it a bit difficult to get along with a person with many pet peeves. You just don’t know when and how you offend them.
