Jessica: Kelsey, I just heard that Kendall Jenner booked a huge fashion show in New York. I know she has family ties to the Kardashians, but I’m really impressed with how well she’s doing in the industry.
Kelsey: I’m not entirely convinced that she’s worthy of this fame.
Jessica: Really? Well, I know she has very famous connections, but she’s incredibly beautiful. She was born into some very good looks.
Kelsey: Yeah, but I just find it hard to believe that she just made it, because of who her parents are…
Jessica: Yeah.
Kelsey: ...and who her family is.
Jessica: I can see that. But I feel like she has a very strong social media presence, and she does a lot of her own marketing. I know she really gets out there in the public eye and distances herself in a positive way from her family, just to get some success with a career.
Kelsey: Yeah, I guess that is a smart move on her part.
Jessica: Yeah, but I do see where you’re coming from. She does come from a very famous family, and I’m sure that that helped quite a bit with her success.

Discussion
Kelsey and Jessica are talking about the fame and success of Kendall Jenner. Kendall just booked a huge fashion show in New York and Jessica is impressed by the model’s success. Kelsey agrees with Jessica that this model was born with good looks and has made smart moves in her career so far. However, Kelsey is not sure if Kendall made it by herself or if her family ties made her successful.
Jessica thinks that Kendall is successful because she worked for it. Kendall has a strong social media presence, she does her own marketing, and she distances herself from her family in order to make her own career. She’s also incredibly beautiful! Because of all these things, Jessica believes that Kendall is worthy of success. The family ties might help her, but Kendall still works hard for her career.
Do you think it’s OK to use your family ties to have a successful career? Do you know someone who does this?
