Steph: I’ve been thinking a lot about, ya know, what makes rock stars rock stars. What would you tell someone who wanted to become a rock star? How would they do that?
Sara: Well, first of all you’d probably need to be able to either play an instrument or sing. Don’t you think?
Steph: Yeah. That’s a really good idea. I mean, there are some things that help you. I mean, but a little bit at least.
Sara: Yeah. I think too you have to get a really good maybe like public relations person or a manager who could get you into some different venues.
Steph: Oh, that’s a great idea. Yeah. Definitely, public relations.
Sara: Yeah.
Steph: Anything else?
Sara: Maybe you could, you could cut like an initial CD with just a single on it and shop it around to the radio stations.
Steph: Oh. That’s a great idea.
Sara: Yeah.
Steph: Any other ideas?
Sara: Um, maybe you could shop it around to, like, KBOO in Portland, which is the non-profit, so they might be more willing to play it.
Steph: That’s a good idea.
Sara: And you could probably also offer your services to a bar. Like say they don’t have to pay you just as long as you can play like on a Friday night, like a really popular bar or something.
Steph: Totally! You’re hired! You can be our PR manager.
Sara: OK. I’m all over it.

It all sounds so easy doesn’t it? Just get a few gigs and get played on the radio and – poof – you’re a rock star.
I think that after the new year arrives, my band will have to cut that initial CD that Sara suggested and see what happens.
Thanks for the advice Sara!
Have a great weekend! Stay out of trouble, OK?
