John:  So, what’d you think about that movie last night?

Miguel:  I don’t know. It wasn’t the best movie I’ve ever seen.

John:  Halle Berry looked pretty good though didn’t she?

Miguel:  She definitely looked good. She was the highlight of the movie.

John:  Seems like John Travolta is kinda type cast these days. He’s always playin’ that bad guy that with the witty lines.

Miguel:  I just think he’s fallen off. I mean, when he came back in Pulp Fiction, he was really good, but since then I don’t think he’s been good in anything.

John:  I liked him a lot in this. And I liked that, the other guy – the main character, you know what his name is?

Miguel:  I think that’s Hugh Jackman.

John:  So what at the end, what was going on with Halle Berry and John Travolta – their characters. I mean who were they?

Miguel:  I still have no idea and I guess that’s kinda cool, but I, I don’t know. I don’t like ending a movie confused about what’s happening.

John:  The whole movie was kind of freaky like that. I didn’t know who was who and what they were trying to do and I guess they, they tried to make it that way.

Miguel:  Yeah. So is that a good thing or a bad thing?

John:  I think it’s a good thing, kept me on my toes!

Miguel:  Huh.

Discussion

Swordfish” is about Gabriel Shear (John Travolta), a special agent, who is trying to hack into goverment computers and steal money. He hires one of the top hackers, Stanley Jobson (Hugh Jackman), to help him get through the government’s computer firewall. I believe, from that point on, the movie gets really confusing and it’s hard to tell who’s the good guy or who’s the bad guy.
John Travolta plays the same character he played in “Pulp Fiction”, “Get Shorty”, “Broken Arrow” and “Face/Off.” The character is a guy who isn’t the hero, but isn’t the villian either. During the whole movie you’re trying to figure out which side of justice he stands on while he grins a lot and pats himself on the back for his accomplishments. If you enjoy watching John Travolta play this role, you’ll enjoy this movie.
What’s your favorite John Travolta movie? Do you like John Travolta? Let us know at the “Movie Madness” message board.
Until next week,
Nedra
