After more than forty years of popularity, one of the most compelling comic books finally comes to the big screen. In the film, scientist Bruce Banner (Eric Bana) is doing groundbreaking scientific research. When an accident happens, he is exposed to radiation that turns him into the Hulk – a massive, impossibly strong creature who rampages through the city destroying everything in his path.
The Hulk is one of the most popular movies of the summer. But before it was a movie, it was a TV show. Listen to John and Miguel’s conversation to learn more.

Miguel

John:  The Hulk looks like a sweet movie. ‘Member watching that as a kid?

Miguel:  Yeah, I do. I loved the TV show. It was great. But, I’m just not buying the computer animated Hulk. It doesn’t look that cool to me in the previews.

John:  Oh, I haven’t seen anything about that. It’s not some dude, like, what was that guy’s name? Luke? Lou P-Pernero or whatever?

Miguel:  No. Lou Ferrigno.

John:  Yeah.

Miguel:  Apparently he has like a cameo in, in the new movie. And he was great, like it was cool to watch that guy transform into Lou Ferrigno. But now it’s like a huge 15-foot tall, like, computer animated monster or something. I don’t know. It’s just, it’s not the same.

John:  I think one of my favorite Hulk shows was when he got buried alive in concrete, and then it hardened and then he bust – he turned into the Hulk and busted out of it.

Miguel:  I don’t think I saw that one, but that sounds cool.

John:  You have any Hulk memories?

Miguel:  Um, nothing specific, um…

John:  So you didn’t see that one where the Hulk busted out of the dry concrete?

Miguel:  I may have, but it didn’t really stick in my memory. But now that you mention it, I really want to, uh, see the rerun.

Discussion

I never watched the Hulk on TV when I was a kid, but I did see the movie. It’s pretty good. It’s on the level of Spider-Man, and much better than Daredevil. Both Eric Bana and Jennifer Connelly do a really good job – and I disagree with Miguel about the computer animated Hulk. I thought it was pretty cool.
If you want to escape the summer heat, get to a theater and see the Hulk!
See you at the movies!
