Do you ever feel useless, a little bit bereft of self-confidence and proper goal?

I have been feeling that way for the past few weeks. I have been ruminating deeply again and again about what line of job I should be leading and what will possibly make me most satisfied and content.

Sometimes thinking deeply makes me discouraged, even though my self-confidence is often at quite a high level. When you rack your brains on something too much, your brain tends to think very broadly and some baseless and disheartening ideas just pop up. "Oh, hey, what if I cannot succeed in the end?" "Yeah, possibly, you will fail." "God, what happens if I fail? Hell, no, I have to accomplish my goals." "Give up, your rivals are too strong." This last sentece put me on fire. It was like I had a nice slap on my face which jolted me out this big twilight zone.

Besides, people keep telling me, "So when are you starting to work?" Being exposed to the very same question for a few months after graduation, I feel truly geared up to set my mind on a definite goal and go for it. I feel pretty self-assertive again and keep aiming for higher. Maybe it is not going to be an easy ride, but as far as I know the destination, I will keep going.

Confidence is important as well. Do what you think is right and don't let anyone discourage you. There'll be foes, friends or acquaitances.  You have a high education, you're capable of doing a good job.

Be a winner!

  • Concentrate
  • Keep emotional balance
  • work on your memory

Unquestionably, it is nice to hold people dear to your heart and value their friendship, because it shows you are caring, warm-hearted and respectful, and being respectful is what we were taught by our parents.

But what about putting people on a pedestal and not receiving as much value as you give to them? That really hurts.

To me, calling a friend to have a quick talk, writing a brief e-mail, inviting friends to a coffee shop or cafe (for half an hour or so), or texting them show you care and value their friendship. These are very small things which take only a few minutes with no physical effort and exhaustion. However, doing all this "right on time" with no delay (if not because of very imporant reasons) requires a subtle wit, which I appreciate extremely a lot. If things are not done right on time, and if words are broken, and if I feel I am being undervalued, I change my route to another destination but this time behaving more sensibly. I am at peace with myself, my rules and my characteristic features. I carry out my responsibilities for people very carefully because it is so easy to worry people, but not honorable! I also know that life is all about giving and taking. You take as much as you give. However, the funny thing is although I am aware of all this (that sometimes I do not get what I give), I still set people on a pedestal more than they deserve. This is a part of my caring side, even if it ends up being disappointed eventually. I place value on people because each person is a wonderful creation of GOD. It is hard to admit it but experiencing this many times before, I am avoiding close relationships with people any more to get less hurt. But now mattter how hard you try to avoid something out of your way, it keeps coming your way.

Thank you, my friends, Isaac, Saladeen, Yulia and Reader.

To me, being valued by others - those who are near and dear to my heart - is very important. I cherish their closeness, friendship and presence in my life with my whole heart, and naturally, I expect the same concern from them. A sense of concern shows that they care for you and it empowers the mutual bonds. But we do not have to be close to each other to show it. Sometimes we have to be away from the people we love, but it does not mean we love them any less. Distance enriches the bonds, in constrast, as with my childhood friend who studied in a distant city, far from home. We kept calling each other at first but as she and I got busier, our calls became less. This year, we did not talk to each other in 3 months. She returned last week, and we met. No matter how many months we do not hear our voice, the moment we meet, it is just like we were always together. We never feel alienated. Instead, we feel way much closer. I do love her a lot like my real sister, and she puts a lot of value on me, as I do. We know that even if we do not speak in a whole year, our hearts are still connected.

Consequently, I agree that proximity does not provide value all the time. Being connected at heart brings about love, respect, happiness, and value. But it is all about giving and receiving in the end.

Have a value-able day today! Smile

That's very interesting notion of your blog.

I think to apreciate the value of less you have to plunge into more firslty.

As for me I  cannot live without an intimate friend. we are not afraid to bother each other and even show our negative emotions and attitudes to each other actions,

At the same time I have some friends   who  come to me once a month or even rare , we can have an enjoyble time but still I think that  the true freind is close to you  and knows all your ups and downs. I think your true friend is much more than a sister. It s a sister by soul and spirit.

My ideas are bit different, Okay, let me shoot straight to the question.

Value, less or more?

Neither less nor more, rather value is based on understanding. To put it simple: The more understanding you have the less you need to talk, and greater the distance the more briskly you walk.

Some of my best friends (in my real life) don't talk to me for ages but I always keep them in my instances, and in my prayers, I have no doubt they do the same, and whenever chance get us connect again, we again cheerish one another like we were never apart.

...................................

In the beggining, we try to evaluate a person, we are curious who we are talking to, we get some understanding, we make friendship, trust grow, more and more day after day, and after having perfect understanding, we don't need words, for friendship is greater than words.

I treat my best friends like I treat myself, and I don't need to pampered them with excessive words,if they came to me  as my guests (sometimes) at my home, I treat them like my family members. I don't throw a huge banquet or feast in their honor, for I know they feel comfort while I take less care of them, and vice versa.

To the contrary, if I invite some new friends for a dinner or a lunch at my home, I want to throw a feast or banquet in their honor, and vice versa.

New ones deserve a feast and old ones deserve a trust.

It's true!!!
The people of our days are becoming colder, they don't understand the values of life, of friendship, they are increasingly distant from each other.
Values need to be restored!

July 5, 2012

If they asked me this question a month ago, I would say, “It is very boring and I am not cut for that job, so it does not appeal to me.”

I made a U-turn, though and my ideas have changed quite a lot.

I had never imagined teaching could be fun. When I was first offered this job (it is a temporary job, because I have other loafty career plans) two weeks ago after graduation, I had some hesitations because teaching children made me scared. "Oh, children? How will I manage it?" It has been a week since I started and I have realized I was being biased. Children are not as naughty as they are considered to be. If they love you, they do whatever you tell them to do. My students, aged 12-14 are great and incredibly smart. They do not make me repeat things more than once. Sometimes I am truly amazed that they catch everything very quickly. In addition to their smartness, their behaviors fill my heart with joy. They welcome me outside of the classroom. Some of them are even competing to hold my books. The girls are scrutinizing me from top to toe every time. When I wear a necklace or a watch, they are staring at me very admiringly. That’s why I am trying to wear simple jewellery which might not catch their attention more than me. When I use a new word or sentence structure in my mother tongue, I hear them using it in their conversations when they are playing. As soon as I finish writing on the board, they are competing to clean the board. "Please, can I  clean the board?" Once one of my students got offended when I did not let her clean the board. Next time I let her do that and I could see the happiness on her face. Now I let those who are willing to clean the board do it in turns. None of them gets resentful any more. Just two days ago, the mother of my favorite student came to see me. I was quite surprised when her mother told me that she (my student) was talking about me at home so much that she could not help wondering who I was and how I looked, so she made it to my class after the lesson. Her mother says, "Every word she speaks is about you. I am wondering how you can make yourself be loved so strongly by these students." It is the trick of the trade! :)

All in all, it is just a great feeling to be surrounded with very clever students who look at you admiringly and learn from you a lot, not only English but also good manners which will be enlightening their way throughout their lifetime.

Hello Moriza,

I do completely agree with you. Being a teacher is not only about teaching subjects or controlling students in the classroom. Being s teacher is beyond that. I see it more like nurturing a person, englightening one's mind and shaping one's characteristics by showing rights and wrongs.

I have a 10th grade student who kept chatting away in the lesson and he annoyed his friends, too, especially those who tried to listen to me attentively. I warned him a few times in the classroom. I asked other teachers how he was in their lessons and they said that he talked too much. I did my best to catch his attention during the lesson but it did not work. Two weeks ago, he really pushed my button with his indifference to what I was saying, and distracting his friends. I told him to get out of the classroom and think by himself outside the room so that he would realize his mistake. At the end of the lesson, I had a private talk with him. I made it clear that he was actually a good student and I did not want to lose him. I did not really want to send him away, but he left me no other chance. If he kept behaving that way, I would really get worried... He felt truly sorry for what he did. He repeated three times that he was terribly sorry and he would never disappoint me again. There has been a remarkable improvement in his manners since then. He even surprised me with his mark. He is all silent and ears in my lessons now, attentively listening to me and asking questions. I feel truly happy. I earned him. Smile

A teacher is someone who touches the children,s hearts forever, remains happy memories and gives good examples for futher life.

You guide them,,teach them, encourage, motivate them to overcome all hardships and difficulties  and in such a way to fulfill their potencial. You have to be a parent,a counselor in all spheres of life,a mentor,a loyal friend,a curriculum manager and consultant,an enhancer, aor,a  faciliator,a specialist in all subjects,a cultural coach,a personal adviser...

I,d like to close with the words by Marla Collins "I,m a teacher.A teacher is someone who leads. There is no magic here.I do not walk on water.I do not part the sea.I just love children."

Be patient and tolerant! Stay healthy and keep fit!

hey Mess

How about this visit will cost you a startling amount of money that only a full-time employed teacher could afford, otherwise it'll literally cost anyone else an arm ; you just dubbed me a Doctor, so I'll get my arm if need be ;). Stop half-doing it and be a teacher fulltime ;), hehe ... only joking, ok?

Kids have instinctive abilities to absorb foreign languages rather quickly so that'd make your task easier.

This is a very nice blog it kind of reminds me of this film called " Kindergarten Cop" without the dramas ;). This is the kind of Teacher-Students relationship I like to read about, not the ones about the new and anxious teachers who get pelted with paper balls everytime they turn to face the board ;).

Have fun, Mess and keep up the good work, you may earn yourself a full-time  position ;) wouldn't it be great? Tongue out

Aliazer,

It is very nautral to feel that way. I find nothing wrong with that, but it bothers me to see teenagers get lost in the middle of a love turbulence. They feel like love is everything but there is reality out there and they have to face it sooner or later. It is always the best option to let them live and learn on their own, though. :)

Hi MESS,

hh, me too i sometimes come across such incidents during the courses, one day i was moving around the classroom scrutinizing my ss's copybooks and i found one guy wrote in his book "SAMIRA" (name of a girl) with big letters and decoration, i told him, what's that this is not supposed to be here, u might have a girlfriend but don't make such mess in ur materials...then the guy (nearly 21) told me that he's going soon to marry that girl "samira" ..i said what!!!! u're going to get married , u 're still immature for that, he said my family and i have decided and arranged things. then i give him the best wishes, after that whenever he enters in my class he used to look at me with miles of smiles .

u know i do all the time encounter such incidents ...but i just pass over i already know that this particular age (17,18..21) is the period in which the tow opposite sexe start to experience such feelings.................take care

Hi Aliazer,

I get your points. People who want to fulfill their duties perfectly think as deeply as you do. I am also the same way as you are. It is not so good, indeed, because it puts so much burden on my shoulders. Sometimes I feel really overwhelmed, but I can handle it. :)

Today I witnessed a very sweet event in my class. Two of my students, 12, are staring at each other flirtatiously. I caught their secret looks. Both of them got blushed, but I pretended as if I did not really get it. It is so cute, but a bit sad, too, because they cannot concentrate fully as they keep looking at each other most of the time. Yet their love is so pure and innocent. It puts a smile on my face to see them just like that. :)

Do you experience such events in the classroom? :)
