The German newspaper ‘General Anzeiger Bonn’ says that in Bonn someone let his pet turtle go free after it grew too big for his taste. Wandering around aimlessly after it was left behind by its owner the turtle then almost caused a car accident while crossing a road and bit plus clawed a police officer who tried to capture the animal.

“Tierschutz Euskirchen” says that in a pet store in Montclair, California police officers who were called found about 2000 fish, birds and reptiles – some of which were even rare in the wild and exotic – that showed signs of having been neglected for a while. Some of them were without food or water.
None knows why customers of this shop didn’t call the police earlier. Most likely the owner of this place now will have to give away his parrots, budgies, chickens, moorish idols, turtles, geckos etc.

The German newspaper “Schwäbisches Tagblatt” says that a pet shop in the Swabian Alps refused to sell some turtles to a lady, because questions asked by the staff proved that she had no idea how to treat these animals right. After a long argumentation she simply stole the reptiles. The newspaper also gave the name of the shop, but I’m not sure I’m allowed to mention the name here.

By the coast of India a maritime accident resulted in tons of oil pouring into the ocean. Ordinary citizens volunteer to help the fire brigade to clean the beaches. Turtles and the eggs they recently laid into the sand are particularly at risk.
