The rapper Coolio has very modern ideas. He doesn’t think that women need to have a man to support them financially. In fact, he wants a woman to take care of him. Or ten women.
Coolio jokes that he wants someone to pay his bills because we’re in an economic crunch time. In other words, it’s a serious, crucial time for the economy. It can be crunch time for other reasons, too. When it’s the night before an exam and you haven’t studied yet, it’s crunch time. You’d better start studying! The last couple minutes of an important basketball game, when the score is very close, are crunch time. Both teams need to work extra hard to score some more points and win the game. And if you have a big project due at work, it’s also crunch time.
There are a lot of other ways to use crunch. Potato chips are a crunchy snack. When you eat them, you crunch them with your teeth and they make a crunch sound. But if you eat too many of them and you gain weight, you might need to do a lot of crunches, or sit-ups, in order to flatten your tummy.
