Corny is often used to describe someone or something that wants to be cool, but isn’t. For example, if your friend got a tattoo on his arm and thought it looked really cool, but you thought it looked stupid, you could say that the tattoo looked corny.
Corny is a playful word. It’s not serious, and it’s doubtful that anyone would take offense to it.
A similar word to corny is “cheesy.” The difference between the two is that something that is cheesy is trying very hard to be cool. A cheesy person is someone who thinks he is the coolest person in the world, when in truth he’s a dork.
