About a month ago, Wilco suddenly became my favorite band in the world. I had heard some of the band’s songs over the past 5 years, but I didn’t really like them. However, when I heard the new album, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, I fell in love. I have been listening to the album in the morning while I eat breakfast, at the office all day and every night before I go to sleep.
It’s not just me that likes Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. Hundreds of music critics have called it the best album of the year. I strongly recommend that you check it out!

Singer/songwriter Jeff Tweedy created Wilco in 1994. The group released 5 albums before hitting it big with Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. Of those five albums, Summer Teeth is the best. It came out in 1999, and has since been called a masterpiece by many critics. I’ve been listening to Being There a lot lately, and it’s very good too.
None of the previous 5 albums are as good as Yankee Hotel Foxtrot though. To me, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is musical perfection. The emotion and energy contained in Jeff Tweedy’s lyrics pulls me in. The music captures my mind and my heart. I feel like I’m addicted to it.
Check out some of the lyrics to “Kamera”
I need a camera to my eye
To my eye, reminding
Which lies I have been hiding
which echoes belong
I’ve counted out days
to see how far
I’ve driven in the dark
with echoes in my heart
Phone my family, tell them I’m lost
on the sidewalk
and, no, it’s not OK
Jeff is saying that he feels lost. He doesn’t know what direction to go in his life. He doesn’t know what’s important and he doesn’t know if anyone can help him.
Many people feel the same way Jeff does, but few of them can explain it in such a beautiful way.

Discussion
I often say that a song or a band is my favorite, and it probably is – at the time. However, not all music stays my favorite. I can love music for a few days, weeks or months, but then it fades away. The CD goes to the bottom of the stack and I don’t listen to it for a long time. I don’t think that’s going to happen to Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. I have the feeling that I’ll be listening to it for years to come.
Have you heard Yankee Hotel Foxtrot? Have you heard any of Wilco’s music? Do you like it? Come to the Music Mix message board and let us know!
Rock on,
