Happy Monday! Hope you had a great weekend! This week is gonna be hot! Today’s music lesson is all about a band that’s been hot for years, the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Surely, you’ve heard of them. Check out what John and Derek have to say about them.

Dialog

1. Listen and Read - Listen to the audio and read the dialog at the same time.

2. Study - Read the dialog again to see how the vocab words are used.

John

Derek

John: Man. Those Red Hot Chili Peppers sure are cool.

Derek: Yeah. They are. I remember seeing them a long time ago. They were playing in a bowling alley.

John: Really? Where was that?

Derek: It was somewhere in L.A. when they were first getting started.

John: Who was in the band then? Was Flea in it?

Derek: Yeah. Everybody was. All of the originals.

John: Wow. That must’ve been really cool. Do you have their albums?

Derek: Um, I have a couple that I like to listen to periodically.

John: I have the one, uh, was it called Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magik?

Derek: Yeah. That one’s really good.

John: Yeah. That’s my favorite.

Derek: I think it’s a lot of people’s favorites.

John: Do they have a greatest hits album, too?

Derek: No, but they should.

John: Yeah. That’d be awesome.

Derek: Yeah.

Do you have a favorite song from these guys? They started their career writing pretty loud and fast songs. Later, they had some songs that were a little bit slower and more melodic. Which kind of music do you prefer? For me, it depends on my mood. Sometimes I’m really in the mood to listen to the Red Hot Chili Peppers and sometimes, I’m just not. How ‘bout you?
