Steph: So, I’ve been trying to get into a little rap lately.
Derek: Been trying to get into it. Like you didn’t like it before?
Steph: Well, it’s not that I didn’t really like it. It’s just that I was never really into it. I mean, I guess in the nineties, or late eighties, I liked that band called 2 Live Crew.
Derek: Oh yeah.
Steph: They were a little bit funny. But, um, lately I’ve been trying to get into, like, Usher and this guy named Lil’ Flip. Have you heard of him?
Derek: Ya know, I’ve never heard of Little Flip.
Steph: Yeah. It’s weird. The spelling is L-I-L, Flip, F-L-I-P. And he’s from Houston and he’s, um, he’s pretty popular these days.
Derek: Really? I might have to check him out. Was he on some awards shows, or?
Steph: Yeah. He’s been on some, he’s gotten some awards and he signed with Columbia recently. Unfortunately, there was, he was involved in an accident right after he signed with Columbia so he had to take a little break, but I’m sure you’ll be hearing a lot more about him.
Derek: That’s cool. I’m gonna have to keep an ear out.
Steph: Do that. It’s good.
Derek: All right.

When you’re looking for new styles of music to check out, where do you look for ideas?
I like to read music magazines, like Rolling Stone, or Spin.
You can also ask friends, fellow students or co-workers what they like to listen to.
Lil’ Flip is a performer that I probably would not have discovered if it weren’t for MTV’s website. There, you can get to know so much about new artists.
It’s super cool!
