The band named Gorillaz recently came out with some new stuff.
Derek is totally excited about it and is talking about it in today’s lesson.

1. Listen and Read - Listen to the audio and read the dialog at the same time.

2. Study - Read the dialog again to see how the vocab words are used.

Derek: Hey, did you know that band Gorillaz just came out with a new CD?

Steph: Did they really?

Derek: Yeah. It’s really cool. I kinda like the whole concept of the cartoon band.

Steph: Yeah. Definitely. It’s almost like they don’t take themselves seriously, but they’re great.

Derek: And they can kinda sing about whatever they want to at that point.

Steph: Totally. And they’re very dancey.

Derek: Yeah. I like the sound that they come across with, kind of mellow, but jazzy and techno. It’s kind of cool.

Steph: I know. It is. It’s very unique. I don’t know any other bands who sound like that. They’ve really, um, set the bar.

Derek: Definitely. And their videos are really cool too.

Steph: That too.

Discussion

The first time that heard Gorillaz, my friend Greg had just come back from Europe. Apparently, they were doing quite well there before they started doing well here.
That’s not really surprising due to their techno sound. In America, we tend to accept techno bands more if they do well in Europe or in Asia.
Since that time, Gorillaz have been doing really well, have acquired a lot of media attention and fans! Cool!
Do you know Gorillaz? Do you like their music?
