Mason: Remember that time I was telling you about that website, the Superficial?
Amanda: Yes.
Mason: Well I’ve almost stopped reading it now.
Amanda: Why? It’s still good.
Mason: It’s just, every single time it’s like Lindsay Lohan did this. Paris Hilton did this. Britney Spears did this. And I don’t really care anymore. As far as I’m concerned, all of those girls are certifiable, we should just throw ‘em in straight jackets and I just don’t need to hear about it anymore.
Amanda: You know what bothers me is if we had a daughter that age…
Mason: Yes.
Amanda: ...knowing that these three girls are role models. That’s what kills me.
Mason: They could be role models for her and she could have a buzzed head and be…I don’t know…At least she’s not hanging her baby over balconies yet, but…
Amanda: Well what’s interesting is with those three women, none of them really have the talent to be where they are today, really.
Mason: Britney had it once.
Amanda: Did she?
Mason: She had something. I was never really behind it, but at least she did something. I mean Lindsay Lohan, she was a cute little girl and then Disney just kind of got behind her.
Amanda: And then bam! Bam!
Mason: Bam?

Mason used to find celebrity gossip entertaining, but he’s tired of it now because it all seems to be bad news. He half-jokes that Hilton, Spears, and Lohan ought to be put in a home for the mentally ill.
Amanda worries that young girls might idolize these wild starlets. Mason jokes that if he or Amanda had a daughter old enough to follow Hollywood gossip, she might shave her head like Britney Spears. He says that at least Britney hasn’t hung her baby over a hotel balcony because Michael Jackson once did just that.
Amanda says that she doesn’t think Hilton, Spears or Lohan have the talent to deserve the level of fame they have. Mason thinks that Britney might have it once, but that Lindsay Lohan was just cute and then made famous by Disney. Amanda says that Lohan grew up and “bam!” She makes a gesture to indicate that she grew big breasts.
Who were your childhood role models? How do you think today’s Hollywood starlets compare?
