IRREGULAR VERBS

Date: Nov 03 2007

Topic: Grammar

Author: lips

Lesson

AFTER KNOWING ABOUT THE 12 PATTERNS OF TENSES, THEN YOU MUST MEMORIZE THE IRREGULAR VERBS THAT YOU WISH TO USE.

AS FOR REGULAR VERBS, ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS ADD “ED” TO THE WORD.  NORMALLY YOU DO NOT FACE MUCH DIFFICULTY IN ATTEMPTING TO USE REGULAR VERBS.

1)
Before you decide the word, please make sure you are going to use the correct tense with          the correct form of irregular verbs by referring to the table below.

2)     Please ensure that singular verb + singular pronoun

3)     Or plural verbs + plural pronouns

4)     Arrange your words into an acceptable sentence which is meaningful.

5)     Practice joining sentences and prepare simple composition before attempting more difficult essay writing.

(Note : You can refer to the book by Hewson, The Use of Words, London)

“Read” remains the same in form in simple past, present perfect and past perfect, but its pronuncation changes in past tenses. In base form, it is pronounced as /ri:d/ but in past tenses it turns to /red/.
