Hi Friends!
Miguel’s birthday is coming up… in fact, he was born on the Fourth of July, which gives us all even more reason to celebrate!
In the conversation below, Miguel and I talk about his plans for the upcoming holiday. I also learn a little bit from him about what it is like to have a birthday on a Summer holiday like July 4th!

Tanis: Any big plans for 4th of July Miguel?
Miguel: Well, I don’t have any big plans yet, but it is my birthday, so I hope I have some kind of party!
Tanis: Oh, I forgot! That’s so exciting! Happy Birthday in advance!
Miguel: Well, I appreciate it, and it’s really unfortunate that you’re not going to be around to celebrate it!
Tanis: No.. I’m totally ex-patriated from the holiday. I’m going to be in Mexico!
Migeul: Well I’m sure you’ll still have fun down there!
Tanis: Yeah, but it won’t be the same, cause, you know, it’s not just the birth our country… It’s your birthday as well!
Miguel: Yeah, I like to think that. I like to think everybody celebrates that day because of me!
Tanis: I think that’s a great philosophy! That’s probably what I’d want to do if I had a big party birthday like that. It seems like you’d always have a great thing to do on your birthday!
Miguel: Well that’s true, except for the fact that it really is a family holday. So, a lot of times, my friends have plans with their families, and then I don’t get to see them as much as I would otherwise!
Tanis: Yeah, but when you were a kid, didn’t all of your buddies, like, shoot off fireworks for your birthday?
Miguel: Well, yeah. And that’s another downside, is that I got fireworks for my birthday a lot, not other presents. So.. you know, it has its positives and negatives.
Tanis: Oh… well, if you want, I won’t give you fireworks for your birthday this year. I’ll bring you a sombrero! (laughs)
Miguel: Thank you

Even though the Fourth of July is coming right up, Miguel doesn’t have any plans yet. What do you think are some good ways he can celebrate his birthday this year?
Miguel and I joke around quite a bit in this conversation. It is funny that I say I will give Miguel a sombrero for a birthday gift, because it is not something that he needs or wants, which was his complaint about receiving fireworks as a gift for many years as a child!
