You don’t always know how well you’ll get along with someone the first time you meet him. When actress Emily Blunt first met Rupert Friend, her co-star in the new movie The Young Victoria, she didn’t think he was very polite. They were introduced to each other at a big party, and Rupert only said a quick hello to Emily before leaving. But later, Rupert explained that he gets nervous in large crowds, which is why he acted so strange. After that, he and Emily got along like a house on fire.

But wait. Is that good? Isn’t it usually a bad thing when someone’s house catches on fire? Well…yes. But if you think about it, fires do have some positive qualities. They burn quickly, energetically, and strongly. So if you have a friendship that is like a house on fire, it is powerful and full of life.

It’s good when co-stars get along like a house on fire, since they have to spend so much time together while filming. Plus, good off-screen chemistry usually makes for a more dynamic movie. In The Young Victoria, Emily and Rupert play Queen Victoria and Prince Albert of England. Victoria met Albert when she was only seventeen, and from the beginning, the pair got along like a house on fire themselves. They married four years later and went on to have nine children. Victoria was so upset when Albert died in 1860 that she wore black for the rest of her life and hardly ever went out in public.

Who do you get along like a house on fire with? Why do you get along so well with them?

Me and my closest friend are getting along like a house on fire since the first year in high school till the moment. surprisingly, she was a classmate of mine back to the elementary school, but she was overactive while I was a quiet kid, so we never exchanged words. But as we got older and met again in high school, a wholly different stage, we began to get along. However we’re still two different characters, but it’s like we’re completing each other. She is always there for me and supportive of me, and I think we are having a friendship for the long haul.

I like "Youth's" aspect on this:  I would agree maybe that any lover's relationship – "good" or"bad,""up" or "down," "cold" or "hot" could be compared to a roaring or simmering fire.  I mean, it is always hot to some degree, but it seems to fade in and out at times – given the three elements of a fire: fuel, oxygen and heat.  As the fuel (the chemicals that flow through our bowels), the heat (our passion and need to be touched and stimulated and to touch and to stimulate), and finally the oxygen that breathes life into all relationships – lust.  Yes, L.U.S.T.- L(ove), U(nderstanding), S(ex) and finally T(rust).  Take away any of these and you have a simmering or smoldering fire – but turn up the heat; pump in more oxxxygen; and add the natural juices of love and you got yourself a roaring relationship – a bonfire!- "getting along" has nothing to do with it.

Me and my friend 'we get along like a house on fire' ok lets cut the bull.  My 'mate' which is English for friend, would die for each other. We get along like a house on fire? Please, stop watching Dick Van Dyke films, if he set fire to my house, I'd kill him and so would you. Just say 'we're good mates' and that will do.
