Jealousy can ruin even the strongest friendship. And Marni and Devan’s relationship is already pretty shaky. They nearly destroyed their friendship by starting rival companies. But a few weeks ago, they finally made up and became friends again. They even agreed to meet each other halfway and be co-presidents of the same company.

But things still aren’t perfect. Devan isn’t completely happy with the way they’ve split up the company. Find out what happens when she starts comparing how much of everything she and Marni have in the office, from pens to people.

Marni:  What are you doing?

Devan:  I’m just… you know… thinking about this whole dividing up of the office thing and I can’t help but feel like you’ve got a lot more things on your side than I do on mine. Like space, for one. Your side is, like, way bigger than mine.

Marni:  Really? You think so?

Devan:  Yeah.

Marni:  Well. I think that we divided up things somewhat equally, I mean for instance you may have less space but you certainly have more pens! I only have four pens. You have five. You have more. I only have one pair of scissors and you have at least three. Therefore, you have more. So I think we divided things pretty equally.

Devan:  I don’t know. I’m not sure about that. I mean, look at this. You have way more cushioning on your chair.

Marni:  Oh.

Devan:  I just really can’t help but feel like you’re not meeting me halfway here. I feel like this is really unfair. We have way fewer lamps. You have way more computers.

Marni:  Okay. We share this office. We’ve got to be able to figure out something here. I mean, I’m happy to give you a lamp. Does that make you feel better?

Devan:  How about you get to keep the lamp if I can have Dale?

Marni:  Dale? You want Dale on your side?

Devan:  Yeah.

Dale:  You can’t split me in half!

Marni:  Well, then I’ll have fewer people on my side!

Devan:  Then I’ll actually have more of something for once. Come on, Dale!

Dale:  Okay…

Discussion

Go Super to Listen Go Super!

Marni and Devan recently decided to meet each other halfway and share their company. But Devan isn’t happy with the way they split up the office. She thinks that Marni has more of everything.

Devan complains that she has less space than Marni. She also thinks she has less cushioning on her chairs, fewer lamps, fewer computers, and even fewer people. Marni argues that they did divide the office fairly, and points out that Devan has more pens than her. But Devan insists that the only way to make things fair is for Marni to let her have Dale.

Have you ever had a friend who was jealous of something you had? Are you good or bad at sharing with others?

My friend is very smart. He works at good workplace.

Sometimes I am jealous. But I accepted that.

Because I have more friends than my friend. I think this fact is worthy of notice.
