John:  Dude, what do you think about girls with fake nails?

Derek:  Well, they’re all right as long as I don’t notice them.

John:  How do you notice ‘em? They seem pretty, if they’re done really well, they seem pretty hard to notice.

Derek:  So that would make those okay. It’s the ones that look like they’re 2 inches thick that bother me.

John:  Or, like 4 inches long?

Derek:  Yeah. I saw that one time on a cashier.

John:  Do you remember? Wasn’t it * Jackie Joyner-Kersee that had those really long nails with designs painted all over ‘em?

Derek:  Yeah. I think that, um, that added a lot of extra drag when she was running.

John:  It could’ve, yeah. She was a sprinter. Or maybe that was FloJo*?

Derek:  I think they were both runners.

John:  Oh. Did they both have the nails?

Derek:  No. It was just the Jackie.

John:  Yeah. But it does seem that cashiers are most likely to have those long nails. It must help them type on the keys or something.

Derek:  Yeah. Probably. Or do like the one I saw. And she was typing with her knuckles.

Discussion

Wow! The things we do for beauty! Some people will do anything to be fashionable.
I got a set of fake nails when I was 16. I wanted to make the most of them, so I kept them full-length. It made driving pretty difficult. My part-time job was impossible to do.
Nowadays, I keep my nails natural. It’s so much easier to deal with!
