Pop stars like Britney Spears and Lady Gaga are known around the world. But every city has its homegrown bands that only the locals know about.

For some music fans, there’s nothing better than discovering a hot local act before they blow up. But others have a hard time keeping up with the local music scene and find it easier to just stick to more mainstream music. Find out if Marni and Mason support local music.

Marni:  So Mason, I, you know, I play music, I’m in a band. But I am terrible about supporting local music.

Mason:  Yeah, I mean, I’m kind of in the same boat. Like I locked my musical taste in somewhere around the late 1990s. But you know, going out to see local music is generally a word of mouth thing for me, like someone I know invites me out to see a show.

Marni:  So it’s not, you know, see a flyer on a post on the street.

Mason:  I enjoy the flyers for their design, but for discovering something new it’s not gonna work.

Marni:  Right.

Mason:  And it’s such a weird thing, like the bands that I would probably like to see in concert at this point are probably gonna play really big venues, and yet, I hate seeing shows in really big venues. I like seeing small little intimate shows.

Marni:  Right. So what’s a fan to do?

Mason:  What is a fan to do? Why doesn’t Radiohead play, like 100 person venues for me? How much would that ticket cost?

Marni:  I don’t know.

Mason:  It’d be like a $2000 dollar ticket.

Marni:  Perhaps.

Mason:  Probably more.

Discussion

Go Super to Listen Go Super!

Marni plays in a band and wants to support local music. But she doesn’t keep up with it as much as she would like.

Mason agrees that it’s hard to support local bands. He doesn’t know about many new local bands that are out there right now. When he goes to see a show at a small local venue, he usually hears about it from someone else.

Even though he doesn’t know a lot of local bands, Mason prefers seeing shows at small, local venues. He doesn’t like to go to huge arenas where extremely popular bands play. Unfortunately, most of his favorite bands are too famous to play at small venues.

Do you support local music in your town? Do you prefer going to shows at large venues or small venues?

I am defnitely not a big fan of any music. I go with my feelings. Whatever music makes me feel relaxed and happy certainly will attract me for a long time even though it is very out of date.

I don’t like local music because singers here in Gaza , Palestine , don’t have the quality to sing well and take others into their music. On the contrary , i like to listen to American and western singers cos it makes sense to me.

Its really hard to express the feelings about local music here in Gilgit-the north of Pakistan.I mean its a kind of music that doesn’t have any relation with the actual genre.

The music played in my region is composed of a Sitar ( Guitar shaped instrument),two sided drums, and a band flute.

For me its boring because I like Pop-Rock and Hard Rock music which isn’t closer to the music played in this region.

However,Bands in the other cities of Pakistan are really great at studio and performance.

I support them fully and I enjoy listening to thier Music.

Thanks Englishbaby for giving a chance to express what I feel :-)
