Our brains can’t always move as fast as the world does. Sometimes, when we get a lot of information or news, we need time to process it. If a lot changes without time for you to get used to it, it can make your head spin.
When something makes your head spin, so much is happening that you can’t understand it yet. When we left the office, Amanda had been offered a job and Mason confronted his girlfriend in a moment of truth. What happened next is enough to make Jeff’s head spin.
3. Watch - Watch the video without reading the dialog.
Dialog
1. Listen and Read - Listen to the audio and read the dialog at the same time.
2. Study - Read the dialog again to see how the vocab words are used.

Jeff: Oh, hi. So, they hired you, I guess, right?
Amanda: Um, yeah, on Friday. Don’t you remember?
Jeff: I actually had dental surgery that morning. There’s a lot I don’t remember, really, to be honest.
Amanda: OK, so you don’t remember the whole moment of truth thing? Mason confronted Vanessa for cheating on him with Dale, and Devan offering me the job, that whole…like, nothing?
Jeff: Wait. You’re making my head spin. What?
Amanda: OK. Well, let me catch you up. Mason dumped Vanessa, so she left, but Dale apologized to Mason, so he forgave him. I mean, it’s not like Dale was trying to hurt Mason’s feelings or anything. I mean, she did kind of trick him into it. Anyway, Devan offered me the job, so I took it, and we’re going on a date tonight. I’m so excited that I got up at five in the morning and I started straightening my hair and putting on my makeup and…
Jeff: So wait, you’re going on a date with Dale?
Amanda: No, silly. I’m going on a date with Mason. This whole change is kind of making your head spin a little bit.
Jeff: Pretty much. Man…
Devan: Morning everyone. What’s new?
Amanda: Well, guess what? What’s your name again?
Jeff: I think it’s still Jeff.
Amanda: Right. So I guess last Friday Jeff got some dental work done, maybe had a tooth pulled, and anyway, he doesn’t remember a thing. Like, something about the anesthesia or something.
Jeff: Yeah, pretty much the whole weekend is lost.
Devan: Huh? I’m sorry. I wasn’t listening. I got distracted. These bills are really making my head spin. Let’s get to work, OK?
Amanda: OK.

Jeff arrives at the office and is surprised to find Amanda sitting at a desk. He asks her if she got a job at the company. Amanda is surprised that Jeff doesn’t remember her being hired last Friday.
It turns out Jeff doesn’t remember anything that happened Friday or over the weekend. He had a tooth pulled and because of the anesthesia, he doesn’t remember anything. All of this news is making his head spin.
Amanda tells Jeff the rest of the news he missed. Mason dumped Vanessa because she was cheating on him with Dale. Mason forgave Dale because Vanessa tricked him.
Devan walks in and is distracted by the bills she has received in the mail. She says they are making her head spin.
When is the last time something made your spin?
