Lots of people have a special trick that only they know how to do. Maybe they can touch their noses with their tongues or maybe they can sing the alphabet backwards.

Talent shows are a chance for people to unveil a hidden talent. Usually these shows have a variety of acts because everybody is different and has something different to do. It’s a chance to get up on stage, ham it up, and make people laugh. There’s nothing to lose. It’s all for fun!

Sometimes talent shows are more serious. For example, the singers who won on the TV talent show American Idol became famous. If you have good showmanship, who knows? Maybe you’ll become a star, too!

Learn what talents Lily and Rafael have in this English lesson about entertainment.

Rafael:  Hey, Lily. What are you doing?

Lily:  Oh, I’m practicing my plate spinning skills for the talent show.

Rafael:  Oh, no wonder I heard a loud cracking noise in here the other day.

Lily:  Well, you know, I feel like I should practice. It’s a variety show, so I figure plate spinning is a variety act, right?

Rafael:  I can’t believe you can do that in front of so many people. Don’t you ever get stage fright?

Lily:  No. With plate spinning, it’s pretty basic. You don’t really need to talk or anything like that. It’s all about showmanship. You have nothing to lose!

Rafael:  I guess in that situation there’s no need to ham it up or anything, right?

Lily:  Well, no, because the feat itself is exciting. Why don’t you do the talent show? It would be fun. We could do a duo act.

Rafael:  I thought about doing a talent show before, but my talent is actually kind of a secret.

Lily:  What is it?

Rafael:  Well, don’t tell anyone, OK?

Lily:  Promise.

Rafael:  I’m a contortionist.

Lily:  What? That’s awesome! You totally need to unveil that. You would totally win!

Rafael:  I do some contortion sometimes with an improv troupe.

Lily:  Oh, really?

Rafael:  And that’s fun, but I don’t like to share it too much.

Lily:  OK, then I guess your talent will remain hidden.

Rafael sees Lily doing something strange. He finds out she’s practicing plate spinning for a talent show. She doesn’t have a special trick already, so she is learning something to do on stage.

Rafael is impressed that Lily doesn’t get stage fright. He has a hidden talent, too, but he doesn’t like to show it to other people. He tells Lily that he’s actually a contortionist, and she encourages him to enter the talent show as well. She thinks that he should unveil his talent and take home the prize!

Do you have a hidden talent? Would you like to perform in a talent show or would your rather keep your special trick a secret?

The worst thing .. When you have a talent and it fades in front of your eyes with all of your submission!! to give up for a thing it must be a gift from GOD for you!!

Okay. It seems that nobody knows about his/her hidden talent. Too pity for all of us bcz so do i. Clearly, everyone has several unique abilities which can be developed. However sometimes it’s a time-consuming procedure. Anyway, maybe time and opportunities will extract some of our concealed talents, though. Perhaps some of us have innate skills in CALLIGRAPHY, PAINTTINGS, SEASONAL WORKS, dancing and things like this. That’s why we need to know ourselves with more and more consideration. We have to PULL THROUGH our problems and realize ourselves much better. Don’t forget that, most of fundamental scientific experiments have been discovered by chance.

Briefly, we should GET OUR DUCKS IN A ROW. Who knows it might be possible to be a superstar in the world. I can see stars on our eyes.

They say everyone has some special talent, so I should have some too – but I don’t know what mine is. I think whether getting around to know one’s talent or not makes a big difference.  I feel people who accomplish something amazing in for example art, athletics and academics are those who have recognized the existence of their talents. Then, finding one’s hidden talent constitutes a talent of its own?

Hi,

I love dancing but I think I’m not enough talented yet to be on stage :D

Thinking about it, after reading this lesson, I realized that what is more important is to find your talent and then develop your skills.  Once you are an expert it would be easier to show your talents to others.

To manage getting stage fright it’s important to recognize we are not perfect, but we can do our best.  People will always judge us, so we have to keep practicing and improving our talents.

Because of this I decided to start a workshop to improve my dancing skills, who knows at some point I’ll be able to do it on stage.

Have a nice day :D

Nope, no talents. My talent is to be talented in everything exept for Math. Maybe it’s my hidden secret. Looks like everything goes smoothly if I put my mind into it. But I have one mind and so many talents, so I’m ready!:) There’ll be lots of broken glass, but it’s just a show. English, baby is also a talent show more or less. We have here beautiful pictures of our skills and also the main one is to practice English. My next talent will be tonge twisters and who knows maybe I’ll be selling seashells by the seashore! :)

Just remembered! I’m a good swimmer! But how can I swim on stage?! :))

Maybe I have hidden talent but it hides really deep. So I haven’t found it yet. If I have talent, I won’t show it everybody in a show because I have stage fright. But it can be solved easily. Just record by a camera and upload it on youtube.

I have learnt a new word!!! “contortionist”- people who can bend his/her body into strange position.

I’d love to see the acts..Rafael should not let his talent remain hidden.

Really I didn’t recognize any hidden talent which I can show or unveil. I figure that any one who has any talent should not keep it secret.

No, I haven’t got any hidden talents and if I ever had any, I’m sure that I would act like “Rafael” and would hesitate to whether perform it on a stage for audiences or not. It’s a real disease for many talented people who deserve a lot but they themselves aren’t aware of that or simply deny it. I know many people who speak English fluently but when they’re in an English speaking country, they’re ashamed to talk because they feel everybody gonna laugh at them. And on the other hand we notice people who are scantily talented (or even aren’t at all) but they take chance and succeed . (It’s a weird world)
