Kendrick Lamar has become a big name in the rap scene recently. His music has become very influential for many people, and he has collaborated with some big artists like Drake and Taylor Swift. It is very likely you have heard some of his music on the radio.
His interesting style and the way Kendrick Lamar raps has made his music critically acclaimed. Even if you aren’t a big fan of rap, you have to admit that he is doing something right.
Romeo and Marni are talking about Kendrick Lamar. Find out who likes him more in today’s English lesson.

Romeo: I have been following Kendrick Lamar since he first popped onto the scene.
Marni: Really? I have to confess I don’t really know much about him.
Romeo: Wow, do you even know what genre…?
Marni: Jazz?
Romeo: It’s jazz-influenced.
Marni: OK. Fair enough. Tell me. Bring it on. Educate me.
Romeo: Kendrick Lamar. He’s this short, black guy. He raps.
Marni: Like Pharrell? He’s kind of a short, black guy, too.
Romeo: Think more like Kevin Hart.
Marni: Has he collaborated with anyone I would know about?
Romeo: He’s collaborated with a lot of people.
Marni: OK.
Romeo: Do you know who Drake is?
Marni: I do.
Romeo: Oh, you do know who Drake is!
Marni: I know something. Yay!
Romeo: Alright, awesome. I just think that he’s very influential and his music is very critically acclaimed. And I will always be his fan.

Romeo loves Kendrick Lamar. He has been listening to Kendrick’s music since he first became famous. Romeo likes that his music is influenced by jazz, and is happy to see it be critically acclaimed. Romeo will always be a fan of Kendrick Lamar.
Marni, on the other hand, doesn’t know any of his music. She thought Kendrick Lamar was a jazz artist, not a rapper. She obviously doesn’t watch very much TV! But she is willing to listen to some of his music if Romeo will show her.
